One Door Opens, Two Doors Close

One Door Opens, Two Doors Close

A Poem by Aaron Burnette

When I was younger,
and ignorance was my game,
I planted a Love Tree seed.
Behind one closed door
I built then and there.

Now patience was no virtue,
And I always knew
That love was everything I would ever need,
That I would do for it anything, even bleed..

Iâd stare at dirt and grit,
Watching for any nudge or budge in
What was thought to be quenched soil,
For an instant birth,
A new beginning...

When no immediate poke of love
Was in sight,
I walked away,
Built two new doors
And walked through them.

I left them open....

...Every so often
Iâd glance back over my shoulder
Down the road
I had to build after
Walking though the
Two doors I built,
Looking for the green Aura of Love
That radiates from a Love Tree
That grow from a love seed.

The light never seemed to be there...

...So I kept on paving...

...I learned to live without love,
Though always glancing back in hopeful stares,
And thought I was in bliss.
I had what I thought I would need to survive.
Books of learning
and
The love of words
Advertized âPromise!â;âTalent!â; âSuccess!â
That the end result failed to deliver.

Finally the green light
Radiated from the keyhole.
It caught my cloudy eyes
and I put down my shovel,
Straightened a bent over back,
And ran for the door...

As I graced the door with my presence,
The viridian light danced upon my toes,
The door swung open,
and I stood...

I stood there basking in the light,
I saw my tree was in full bloom
And I smiled!

But an unexpected, uninvited storm
Ripped the road to pieces,
and broke my bridge to shreds...

...a terrible sound punched my face,
Bringing about pain and confusion.
The two doors creak and groan in unison,
Close...
Smacking my face in the process.

I pinch the pain away,
And test the doors.
I find them locked...

...God damn it!

Why do two doors close when one door opens?...
