fossil eyes

fossil eyes

A Poem by dukovan

At first I thought I lost it

Losing sleep over time

Watching, waiting, anticipating

Signs inside the tree lines

Then before I know it, I fall asleep

Expecting what I get for a while

Places changing into people

And I don’t have to wonder

Time grows out of my stomach

And up my spine

A rooster is only outlined

Always knows the east pines

Anticipating loss of feeling

Tried to make all the blood stop

Letting from the sunset

Leaked across the family plot

Encrusted in the family tree

Crustacean shells from the salty sea

Fossilized in you and me

Fossil eyes, finally free

I love your vivid uninhibited imagery. I read this two times & each time I read different things into your imagery. Like "falling asleep" could mean that way some couples relate in a mindless fog. Your description of time passing in the middle stanza is brilliantly crazy & original. Then it seems your poem takes a turn toward "family" . . . love your sentiments, feels kinda like my family too (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
