Sunsets and Broken Hearts

Sunsets and Broken Hearts

A Poem by Sue Anne Uy

As I watch today's sunset alone
I feel weary knowing there will be more lonely days
I feel as if I were a lifeless stone in a cliff
Rough and weak, nothing but something you will never miss

And now I sit here, feeling the coldest October
Wondering if your heart remembers the warmth of my love as time passes by

I whispered I love you in the wind
Wishing you'd hear it as it blows from where you stand
And though there will be no response
I'd smile with the thought that somehow I crossed your mind

I miss your lips against my forehead and my cheeks
I miss catching my breath while we kiss
I miss your warm embrace in afternoon like this
Now, there's nothing left but memories I ought to embrace

I thought that if I believed it would happen, it would
And I spent every day and night believing you and I stay as beautiful as it should
But now all that I see are shattered dreams and broken hearts
Sunsets now and then tear me apart
