Perfection of a TeenagerA Poem by Elana Juli RoysonTo all of you who feel less than perfect:
We all make social blunders.
We all stutter over our words. We trip over our own feet. We forget our locker combination then we beat the crap out of it.
We all fail a test now and then. We all have blown off homework. We talk bad about our teachers. We think of ways to skip gym then end up going anyway.
We all roll our eyes when our parents talk. We all "forget" to do our chores. We sneak out of the house. We tell ourselves we'll excercise later then we take a 3 hour nap.
We all tell white lies now and then. We all cry our eyes out when lied to. We play darts with our ex's faces. We keep secret who we crush on then tell our best friend who tells the world.
We all watch things we shouldn't. We all say some things we shouldn't. We talk to people our parents say not to. We download music illegally then we pray we don't get caught.
We have all hurt a friend. We have all been in denial. We have all begged for another chance. We have all blown a second chance then maybe even a third.
Point is, teenagers mess up. We're not perfect. We have more stress then we let on. We all need a hug now and then. If none of this applies to you then you're in some serious denial. Please seek medical attention. © 2011 Elana Juli Royson |
