Celestial Love

For all of eternity, the sun circulated the Earth as it spun, rising and setting as the days came and went. Similarly, the moon appeared only in the night for Earth. The sun painted the sky gracefully by day, while the moon illuminated the darkness and lit up the night perfectly. The moon and sun were so unique and different, so very quickly they became infatuated with the beauty of each other's existence. As the days and nights stretched on, the sun grew sad because she realized the moon was too far away for their love to touch. Even the strongest bond could not travel the distance between the sun and moon forever. This made the sun cry to the moon,

"Oh moon, of everything in all of the galaxies, my body aches for only you."

This upset the moon, and he cried to the sun,

"Oh sun, of everything in all of the galaxies, I would give anything for only you."

The moon's kind words caused the sun to smile. When the moon witnessed the sun's genuine and bright smile, he realized he would do whatever it took to make the sun's smile eternal.

"Oh sun, even though Earth needs me to light up its night skies, the Earth does not need all of me," the moon said to the sun.

The sun was so confused, and her smile faded away.

"Oh moon, what are you proposing?"

The moon just smiled, and then began giving a piece of himself to the sun nearly every month. Although the moon could not give all of himself to the sun, even a part of the moon was enough. And the sun and the moon both smiled eternally. And this is why we have the phases of the moon.
