Another Photograph Since

Another Photograph Since

A Poem by electricsatori

It was just a photograph of you,

in our front yard

that I remember,

but I have never kept another

photograph since.

Your age was clear in the kodak,

a spotted bald head,

(you were)

standing erect against

your curved spine.

The tattered shirt was stained

and you looked normal,

old,

as you always did.

I have never kept another photograph since.

It's counter-intuitive that something as inherently nostalgic as the act of keeping a particular photo could be presented in such an unadorned and unemotional manner, and yet it works. The use of repetition is judicious, and the imagery--in spite of the spare nature of the piece--is well-presented due to the excellent word choices in presenting the details. A very nicely done piece of work.
