a time too many

a time too many

A Poem by Jake Martin

when was the last time
you looked up and thought
of your complications
we forget to lose our selves

when was the last time
you've seen the end of these
nonsense nations
you sought the wrong answer

but nothing matters any more
nothing ever did
you hope no one is keeping score
but what have you said?

don't see me in a bad light
i'm really not that bad
just reservations
they seem to bring me down

when was the last time
i looked up and thought
of the times that i've lied
just to say that i've tried..

a time too many perhaps

you let me off the hook
but i was just a kid
you know i didn't keep your score
but i'm afraid that time did

looking once and looking twice
looking once and looking twice
yeah not any more...
