The Skin I Live In

I love my body, but it is not me.

i am twenty years old.
i finally am starting to feel comfortable in my own skin
comfortable enough to maybe show it to people
not just people i’ve known forever
not just people behind doors that are locked tight
and maybe not my whole body
but maybe just bits and pieces

and i am twenty knowing that this is the best my body will be
and that more and more people want to see it
and i feel like what it is has become more important than what i am
my heart my love my mind my wisdom
are less than my chest my a*s my hips my p***y

and you don’t think you’re doing any damage
asking me for one more picture
saying how beautiful a body i have
and then telling the others
you don’t really know me
even though you’ve studied every curve
like they are plato’s last words
even though you’ve looked at each inch of skin
as though they are your map to freedom

i am twenty years old
i am more than the skin I live in
yet less than the dreams i dreamt

That's deep and so true on how society has put the body on a pedestal to be pick at and to be judge and I thinks it's messed up love this btw it's great
