In This Room

In This Room

A Poem by embeth

I turn down the heat
until my feet feel chilly
in this room
where the light is always dim
I spark a candle
fragrance, warmth, encircle me
wrap me up; parting from the day

I chose to be here with myself
alone, in this room

I play music which dances with my feelings
fingers of melody
twisting, coercing
deep into my chest
pulling at shadows

I hear heartbeats I know I am meant to keep hidden away
come morning

now, in evenings din
I let them dance & play
floating, rising
out of me
escaping like prisoners
held captive too long in a land which will never be home

I water emerald-toned plants
they drink from the same glass bottle I press to my own lips

life giving way to life
all from this day, leading into night
in this room
