Enough

Enough

A Poem by Emilie J.

Feminine vanity or
Self-preservation?

Judging gaze of wandering eyes
turning uncovered flesh to stone

Too skinny, too fat
Too much makeup, not enough
Frigid, w***e, prude, s**t

Perfection is expected
But reality is unwelcome

Left to drown in societal expectations
or
Bend to the whims of power.

Even perfectly poised, perfectly made up
Still not enough.

Never enough.

This one reflects the conflicts of many, especially the young. Society's standards, demands and whims can overwhelm the individual. The alternative is to say the hell with them.
