Fears

Fears

A Poem by Emily P

People are always afraid.

Afraid of jumping, afraid of falling -

Afraid of what they don’t understand and

            Afraid of what they comprehend.

There’s a world of fears,

Both irrational and sensible,

That consume the conscious and complicate emotions.

Evil shows itself in unforeseen ways -

Through the darkest of clouds that steal the warmth of the sun,

Through violent lightening striking down and shaking the earth.

Through uncontrollable diseases and impending death.

Through what is unknown,

Through beautiful faces and sinister smiles.

Through people’s inability to understand one another,

Their incapability to have compassion for the things they don’t apprehend.

And through people who torment others physically. . .

And emotionally.

But there is hope to be found in these fears,

In the sunlight, in the natural beauty of the world,

In evolution, in new discoveries,

In glowing souls, in growing hearts,

In new beginnings, and bittersweet endings.

And in you.

And despite all the things that infiltrate our fears

There will always be you.
