Personal Reasons

Personal Reasons

A Poem by Emma Cathryn

I need a reason
to breathe.
All that really matters
is I don't feel you anymore.
Don't you know you're holding
my whole world
in your hands.
My heart still aches
alone at night,
remembering our love ending
even without a fight.
You were all that
I could see.
Loving me
was all I needed
for my single
et
  er
    nity.
My life isn't over,
but it might as well be.
Broken heart and
shattered glass
resting upon the floor.
Blood drips from my chest,
causing me to be so
damn
help
      less.
You were my reason
to breath.
Gone is where you are now,
alone is what I am.
I still feel your heart's beat
in the palm of my hand.
You think it's for the better,
but darling, referring to whom?
To you or me,
if only you could see
this pain brought upon me,
myself, and I.

I have always wondered why this particular emotional pain was referred to as a "broken heart" - I think I understand better now - thank you.
Well done!

This poem left me speechless. I can definitely relate to it. You expressed the emotions of a breakup very well, especially one that leaves you missing the other person. Great job!
