The Dream

The Dream

A Poem by Emma Kuhlmann

Her face grimaces with fear as the common nightmare appears
The roaring sound of silence echoes in her ear
The lightening race of her heart comes to a climax
Creaking wide, the door exposes her hunter
A dark gangly creature of evil intent
The ghoul extends its long willowy arms to snatch her throat
But stops short
She is plunged into quiet
Peace inhabits her soul as a familiar phrase turns over in her mind
“I will never leave you and I will not forsake you”
An aura of brightness surrounds her every feature with light
The demon cowers in reverence then leaves her alone with the aura
She propels forward shaking the dream from her mind
Sunlight pours in through the blinds, illuminating the once terrifying room
Relief pours into her heart as she begins the new day
