My Room at Midnight

My Room at Midnight

A Poem by E.J. Michalec

My bright blue walls were barely visible

The sweet sounds of soft music

Channeled through me

And relaxed my body

Only light source

Were glowing boxes of technology

The scent of laundry detergent

Lingered within my blankets

Striped cat

Lurking in the shadows

Pushing in and out

Of the busted bedroom door

And sock monkeys lay next to my bed

Lifeless on the floor

And I observe each and every one of these things

Until I can’t stay awake anymore
