Red River Heart

Red River Heart

A Poem by Gordon
"

You are the blood within my heart

"

This heart, this old calloused and tired heart

Was once young, vibrant, naïve and fun

When it first saw you back at the start

Dams collapsed as a new spring had sprung

Flooded and filled a river ran through it

Which carried whispers of you so true

Upon your shores I would come to sit

To listen, chat and make love to you

This heart, this same thickened and aged heart

Still pools with mature waters from your

Constant flow that never died nor part

Each day a new wave washes ashore

Blood to keep this heart pounding and pure

Sustain me, caress me, endlessly

Like all things ancient, your love endures

You the river, my heart your red sea

I've come back to reread and am thinking of The River Runs Through It and how calming running water is. Kind of like how time calms things as we go along in life and realize everything doesn't have to be drama, even though there is a delicious drama in love whether it was young love remembered or older love thought about each day and remembered or still living for us. "Lucky Us, if thats's the case!" i enjoy your writing. Anybody ever tell you that you are a handsomer version of Kevin Costner?

Romantic ....I love "water" poems, so I liked the flow.....lol. It was a nice tribute to the woman in your life. Any woman would love such a sweet love poem.

Most poems about hearts are so cliché, so boring. However, you bring something new to the mix. I find it interesting how you used a noun and a verb that were the same: "Dams collapsed as a new spring had sprung"
"Each day a new wave washes ashore"
I think this really added to the overall flow of the poem, as did the rhyme scheme. Nicely done; those rhymes weren't forced!
If only I'd looked at this on Valentine's Day :)

Captivating.

Now that was a true valentine. Mature love is the most delicious in that is has had time to become perfect in all it imperfections.
