If I Died Today

If I Died Today

A Poem by Emunah June.

If I died today

It'd be quick

And painless

I'd just fall

Onto the floor

And fade into the ground below me

If I died today

Pick me up like a new bride

And carry me away

To the windiest peaks

And lay me down

In the grass

And close my eyes

If I died today

Take me to the seas

And place me in the water

But hold me still

So the colour will wash away

From my dusty, sandy cheeks

If I died today

Take all documentation

Of my existance

And bury it with me

So I may remember

Who I am

When I become spirited away

If I died today

Cover me in dirt

And give me a single flower

With most of it's petals

Already gone

If I died today

Tattoo my name on your arms

And don my smile

And whisper my name

Into the ears of your children

If I died today

Bury me

With a photo

Of the skies

Of the seas

Of the earth

Of the heavens

And smile

If I died today

Live.

I am reminded of Harry Potter, when they bury Dobby's body on the shores of the Salt Cottage. I love every single one of these stanzas. Especially the 4th and 5th ones. The 4th won is so...so...so..I don't even know how to describe it. And the 5th is equally as beautiful. Sorry I can't provide further insight. I just love it for what it is.

Already gone

I don't want to try to pick that apart in fear of getting it wrong.

This is unbelievably amazing, again. :)

Almost lyrical. I'm finding I like your poems at lot~
Beautifully written. It pretty much brought tears to my eyes. The entire concept "If I died today" has been perverted by suicide. You brought it back into the light of "accident", and what to do in this case. It was a nice break from the dark poetry I'm used to reading when dealing with this subject. Well done! :D

A interesting way to look at dying. I like the water part. I prefer to go out like the Native American did. Built a bridge between two tree and set a fire allowing the spirit to be set free.
" Tattoo my name on your arms
And don my smile
And whisper my name
Into the ears of your children"
A excellent poem. Thank you.

I'm not crazy about poetry, but I really enjoyed reading this!

I have to admit that my favorite stanza was...

"If I died today
Take me to the seas
And place me in the water
But hold me still
So the colour will wash away
From my dusty, sandy cheeks"

I love the ocean...this part made me smile....even though I'm sure most of us would rather just be buried somewhere other than a boring cemetary...this poem was truly fantastic...I wanted to read it until the very end...once again truly fantastic.

this poem has a lot of truth. death is very sad but it shouldnt stop others from still living their life. funerals are not to grieve the dead, but to celebrate the life that was lived

This was a sad, but very cute poem. Death is terrible, but new life is brought into the world...and this has lovely imagery. I really think you did a great job on this. Thanks for sharing. :)
