My Own Person

My Own Person

A Poem by EMP

I'm living life alone now,
taking every step
one by one.
They've said goodbye,
there's no need for them anymore
and they told me to
try it alone now.
So I'm taking each step,
slowly, one by one.
I thought I'd have some strength
to go along with life
being my own person,
needing nobody else.
But it seems that my heart
took a different course
and now it's loving you.
It loves you so much it hurts,
but I know it's wrong,
we just can't be
so I've stopped now,
wearing my heart on my sleeve
and I'll hide behind a disguise of hate
and leave our love in the hands of fate.

A heart can't be directed or prodded or led. It leads and we choose to follow or walk the other way, leaving a hole that can never be filled. You've captured that beautifully in this piece. Well done!
