Frie-dom

A Poem by Eric Pudalov
"

This poem is dedicated to my friend Frieda Pickle. Thanks for your inspiration!

"
she breathes word upon page
these verbs and nouns
adjectively take on
a monstrous life,
sitting within the
Writers Cafe.

as we drink cappuccino
and tea at neighboring tables,
I tentatively eye her
handwritten words
scrawled in gray pencil,
and ask to partake.

she invites me to sample
the brilliant and
seductive concoction,
the recipes untasted
in her spellbook,

and I accept,
breathing the aromas of sound,
chocolate metaphors
and hazelnut similes
that mystify, and
satiate my taste
for art...

I can only hope
to return the favor,
with the ingredients
yet unmade
in my
hands.

Frieda was one of the first poets I met on this site that encouraged me to continue writing, when I started I was way worse than I am today and I wrote about irrelevant things, but today thanks to Frieda I've cultured myself as some sort of a decent poet. She has been more than just an online friend to me, she's been my pillar of strength and motivation and I adore her. I love the flavor and style of words you add to your poetry, your thought process is delicious Eric. You cook up a great tribute for a Poetic Goddess, the grand chef of words Miss Frieda P.

You use some really witty worldplay here, and the poem has a unique sense of rhythm to it that works very well; it gives it a certain coherence that can be hard to find in the absence of rhyme scheme. Your second stanza is a little weak, mostly due to your flowery word choice, but it is a small and nitpicky complaint on my part. There's something pleasant about the imagery of this poem. Reading it is really, truly refreshing.

Keep writing, and best wishes. xxx
