To My Childhood Friend

To My Childhood Friend

A Poem by e.renoldi

this is to my childhood friend

whom I have stolen too many glances to count

whose finely defined features and dazzling smile

have triggered shivers down my spine

and butterflies in my stomach

strong hands and shoulders held

proudly by your charismatic stance

encouraged your pride to grow

by my sneaking glance.

You have damaged the spirit

and life love brings through

your thoughtlessness and childish words.

the trust gone forever because

your smile froze me and snapped it in two and because

I thought you were an angel

and Aphrodite’s perfect gift

but now I see that no one knows

when or how love really appears, not until

they find Cupid’s arrow in your pocket

so I write this for the unanswered stares,

lingering questions and my friend

who though is here, is no longer there.
