Lessons of Sweet Frosting

Lessons of Sweet Frosting

A Poem by e.renoldi

Your dreams seem broken

 and you feel alone,---

The broadest breadth of lessons,

from a ravished heart and home.

But what if your cake was laced with sweet frosting,

Not fake paste?

What then could be taught in this extraordinary place?

Look I tell you.

Look straight into the sun.

Didn’t you ever wonder how good it felt to be hugged by the sun?

Soar slowly,

swiftly, soundly and loudly.

Crawl into every nanny and crook.

Brush off your knees if you fall.

Discover yourself.

Crumple the shreds of your reservation

and toss them away.

If you don’t love yourself, who will love you?

You are the guardian

of the world and all its creations.

Protect gentle daisies and plant new buds.

Show compassion to the timid birds.

Don’t spite them because their wings are by

right and yours by toil.

You mourn for the children starving,

invisible to your childish eyes.

Pain is a scapegoat I tell you,

framed by regret’s childish fears.

It’s okay to see suffering.

It’s okay to feel its sting.

Laced with frosting,

pounded and mashed in between,

your cake full of sweet lessons,

serve a piece to each of your dreams.
