Phantom of the Opera

Phantom of the Opera

A Poem by Eric Cox

Sinister organ music he madly plays
the Phantom of the Opera's heart is haunted and grey
he is surrounded by Gothic painted gloom
like a dark haunted theatre tomb
up above him plays paint happiness
he cannot feel the beautiful caress
he watches her with desolate longing
how he wants to ease his soul's crying
one evening he cannot bear the pain
he takes her captive to end lonely rain
beneath the theatre he tries to win her soul
but mad darkness dances in his skull
and she sees behind his mask one night
and is shocked by his deformed and tragic blight
the Phantom of the Opera ends up alone, haunted and grey
beneath the theatre his sinister organ music echoes decay.

I totally got drawn to this. Your words go so well I feel I can always remember them in my head. Lovely imagery I can sense its suppose to be haunting. Great detail and I can see all your efforts in this. My favourite line "how he wants to ease his soul's crying" You should continue writing because you have talent. Great dark poem

*gulps* this is based off of the Lon Chaney version of the Phantom of the Opera, is it not?
Awesome! Love the flow and the words. Haunting and dark. It's such a coincidence that your name just happens to be Eric! (I read your profile) the Phantom's name is Erik. Just one letter away! Anyway, wonderful poem. Keep on going!

I really have this fondness of Phantom. He's very mischievous but in some way innocent and just taunted by his own afflictions and hurt... I thought you perfectly caught the personality of the Phantom.. very nice.

Nicely retold. I could hear the music as I read this. This is one of my favorite musicals. Thanks for posting.

As I have always said about your work, you paint a picture with your words. The Phantom of the Opera is a sad story and you tell it so well. I like your love stories (always a favorite, sad or happy.) Keep up the good work, Eric.

The Phantom is a very tragic figure, terribly so. Love your poem about him and his heartache.
