remembering the stairs

remembering the stairs

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

remembering the stairs

five story window dressing

looking down at myself

through the pane

i see remnants of a heart

that once splattered from the fall

yet kept beating

and when i look up,

the glass a bit clearer

the sky becomes halcyon

beckoning,

reflecting the you

i once saw in my dreams

when we stood next to the sun

and the rent we afforded for the apartment

was paid in love.

This made me think of a simple/humble yet happy life/marriage vis-a-vis to an abundant life but with lots of misunderstandings.

This is a really sweet and sensitive poem to me. Memories of love lost and survival. I think we have all been there. The image of the splattered yet still beating heart and rent paid in love I thought were particularly poignant, and struck a chord with me. Thanks for sharing this.

We know what happens when we stand too close to the sun... I have to stop by your page more often, Jacob - your poetry gives me hope and makes me believe in the words...

A slightly more earth-bound Icarus, then...wistful without being cloying (would that more folks could keep the two at arms length), wonderfully visual. Pane/pain is a very nice touch as well. A beguiling mix of emotion and craftsmanship, each in the right measure.

Though you write from your mind it is your soul that whispers what falls upon the page...it is your depths that shine those linings. I know that you have been here before and like the cleverness of your mind you take the stairs wholehearted. Making each and every reach a new level. You have risen within this style to be a King among Kings and I am always so honored to be a bystander watching...waiting...amazed:)

A time when you loved climbing them stairs because the sun and tropical warmth of her love was there. Home is where the4 heart is and I suggest picking it up while it's still beating. Your gonna need that pump for an O2 supply. The air is thin at the top :)

The falls from heights unknown where soul no longer gathers its wings and bears the brunt of unceasing woe.

Tender & sorrowed!
