grins to riches

grins to riches

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

grins to riches

the palace of you

defamed crown

diamond studded throne

i am the beggar

asking simply for a touch

a brush of lips against an indigent cheek

the only handout presumed

i am on the steps

trying to get close to your heart

are you willing to give love to a commoner?

i don't want to steal your diamonds

or your crown,

just a bit of your heart

even if i have to pilfer

with my oh so poor smile...

love can breach any divide as life bears out but 'tis usually the parents who don't approve. will have to be a million dollar smile. well said in shakespearean styling ... :)

thank you for your words, Pete,
j.
So often when we have strong feeling for someone we feel they are out of our league or too good for us. One of the great glitches of human nature.

Nice one Jacob.

"i am the beggar
asking simply for a touch
a brush of lips against an indigent cheek ... " _this is beautiful truth, a truth that most of us carry, whether "indigent" or not. "Poor smiles" can win lots of riches. You have spoken wisely.

Bravo, jacob,
DAH

My pleasure!
We don't know the power of a smile! Sometimes, it makes miracles.
Yeah, smiles could win hearts.

so true, so true, thank you, Dhaye,
j.
I can see the awkward grin as the suitor, feeling less than, makes his play for the woman of his heart's desire. As always poetry filled with images and emotions and purpose.
