Are there any winners in this war? How long does the fight go on until one or the other cedes to final surrender. The heart looks to be mended and yet relishes the ache that goes with the pain. Love is a harsh mistress, she will have her way and we try not to be one of the discarded bodies along her way.
Take care - Dave

thank you for your insights on this piece, Dave,

for some reason this reminded me of the battles in Italy during the Second word war, where many a dead soldier lost their hearts to pasta Corazon and vino amore, could be completely off the mark, but that's what I got, enjoyed.

Arr yes that love is blind feeling never does last, that euphoric feeling! Reality sets in and then the casualties build up, victims of the heart breaker.
A battlefield of a loser in love. Battle weary and suffering from wounds. A youngster exposed to the hell fire of love gone wrong. The realisation that happy ever after is not going to happen. That's where you took me. Once things go that far they are unlikely to produce any winners.
