the lighters are silent encore

the lighters are silent encore

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the lighters are silent encore

banjo brain
strums systematically
an off-tune
touring in chaotic concert

a jarring pincer
of strings ripping through
a forest echoing
your name

a musical sparring
that slams into
a guitar gut
the duo of us spliced

no more dates

The two jamming in discordant concert and yet providing a sound of memory. I really liked this.

Take care - Dave

thank you for your kind words, Dave,

Evocative imagery and great enjambment - "that slams into /a guitar gut"
The whole poem feels simultaneously chaotic yet measured. I really enjoyed reading it :)

thank you for your kind review, celyn,

This evokes images of concerts at night with a sea of lighters (smartphones these days) being held aloft. Memories of these we treasure but most of the older bands no longer tour and just like love they come to a standstill.
