A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

in another time

castles of egg shell logic

the impediment

of the moat of self-doubt

the gators poised in wait

to nourish on dreams

a draw bridge lowers

inciting hope

and then the flowers shut tightly,

encircling

you were an army of roses to placate

but my armor too resistant

now the gators rest

eyes on a prize

that gallops away in fear

the castle abandoned.

Oh, that egg shell logic. Self doubt is so destructive. Tell me about it. Those gators are fearsome. The flowers are so
much nicer when they are in full bloom and smile at you.

yes, much nicer,
Thank you, Chris,

in looking at our lives, it is amazing how often our dreams are or have been eaten by self-doubt, truly a monster of a gator... why is that I wonder?? is it our dreams are just fantasy, there to drown our hopes in that moat?? or is it our own thinking that keeps those dreams at arm's length?? in some ways, when we walk or ride away; when we cast aside the roses, we are also giving up to the hardships and failures in life. Thank you, Jacob, for your poetry.

That moat of self doubt is one b***h. Once its face is gazed upon, the gators make their entrance and the flowers start closing. Don't even think about a siege; that castle is now up for lease.

thank you, John,

I think this is wonderful! It has great imagery and terrific lines that I wish I had thought of. I think we all get to this point, we just get a tough hide with time.
