NO YOLK! who doesn't like eggs? anywhere? anytime? anyway?
everyday i verbally thank my ducks my chickens for what they offer
food and peace ... i find solace in my farm
i sit i listen i talk to my feathered friends ... they respond in fowl language!
i don't mind
it gives me time to just be
after thought ... needless to say i don't pay attention to egg prices at the store but with the price of feed i do not keep tabs on my emptying pockets
'just got paid today
got me a pocket full of change'

we should all be spoken of with such respect ... peace
Boiled egg and bread cut into soldier fingers for dipping. A staple childhood meal. The wonderfully versatile egg, has now become hugely inflated in price. Hard to believe that half a dozen now cost three times what they did a couple of years ago. Also reminds me of my nan telling me how the hen lays eggs for our breakfast and how thankful we should be. She also told me about how eggs were rationed in the war and how valuable a single egg became. I had so many thoughts reading this marvellous poem. I travelled many years and met many people on the way. We should never take anything for granted. Things can change almost over night.

Okay, I give, Chris. What is a soldier finger?

We have taken food for granted and with all the scarcities of some comes price gouging by the selfish humans making it a luxury item which was once a basic pantry staple item whilst the elite sit in their private jets eating caviar and wonder what colour pattern toilet paper they have today
Sorry ranting Jacob
Your poem was fantastic

always such poetic responses from you...thank you, Pat,

very well written, I was going to say "said" :) It's early. Have seen the price of eggs? it is a sacrifice all the way around. :) love the opening stanza, very clever and a powerful message to take stock of, over all. We assume things will remain the same but times are changing quickly. we need to quit taking things for granted.

The literalness of this poem is great in itself (although I don't think that most people appreciate the sacrifice or even think of it as they eat) Beyond this the metaphor is a powerful message about sacrifice and appreciation throughout life. I loved the passage "unceremoniously baked in sated greed" so well worded.
