the find

the find

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the find

archaic feelings

poems in hieroglyphics

scrawled on the walls of my heart

sad stone souvenirs

she was an old flame

a candle I couldn't keep lit

a few stamps on an envelope

a goodbye airmailed over oceans

archaic feelings

the cave sheds tears

I saw her enter

I pause over words

still catch the candle's aroma

but love no longer

has a scent

it died centuries ago.
