I am the Water

I am the Water

A Poem by Erin Lee

 I am the Water

by Erin L George

I am the water that swirls around your feet

as you wade in

to catch his hook

and tangled line

from trees

(Did you ever get him a big boy pole?)

I am indigo dreams

born of another time

where things made more sense

and we had never lied -

marriage is suppossed to last

forever,

meaning,

always.

(How could we have ever believed?)

I am the waves of emotion that wrap you

in warmth

in sleep

as you wonder where I am and what I am doing

who am I with?

(Didn't I tell you I am never far?)

I am those coincidental butterflies

who swarm at your porch light

as you step over glas

shards -

content to sit

and watch

as you make love to her

and think of me

(Did you think I didn't know?)

I am the humidity that sticks to your chest

as you towell down

after showering

eyes shut

and dreaming, refusing to believe

I could be the one

you thought I was

(I don't know who I am myself).

I am the bubbles

that dance in the tub

swirling round curves

"built for speed" -

enticement tickled blush

cotton candy

(I bleed).
