another failed relationship

this is the first in a series of poems that are pretty much thematically identical

He runs through her mind
like she runs from her problems
she'll go from one torture to the next
an escapists misguided abysmal attempt
to cope with the emptiness, a life that's bereft
of self love or self worth, a huge gaping void
willing, no, eager to be made into a toy
instrumental value much easier to grasp
accepting his love in the form of a slap
all these desperate desires to exchange control
but no consideration of the emotional toll
and though once sweet self control tastes increasingly bitter
more bitter still is the too-malicious glimmer
of real hate in his eyes, she knows it too well
a parallel of that which she directs at herself
