Thousand Yard Stare

Thousand Yard Stare

A Poem by Erudite
"

This is about Social Anxiety, and how socializing can often feel like a war. It takes its toll on an anxious mind

"

Look deep into my eyes
Meet my thousand-yard stare
Now tell me please,
Do you feel me there?

Because I haven't felt a thing
Since the first battle of the war
It's like my soul can't reach the outside
It's like I can't touch anymore

Society bares its vicious teeth
and rips us good people to shreds
Now there are no living souls
We all move and talk, but we're dead.

It seems I've forgotten what exactly "I" means
and if someone stabbed my chest, would I care?
Or would I sit, blankly watching my blood leak
Blankly watching, with my thousand-yard stare
