Free Your Self

Free Your Self

A Poem by Erudite
"

A poem about overcoming rude people and believing in yourself

"

We are all slaves.
Are you listening to me?
It is the slave's duty to set him or herself free

Have you heard those hateful whispers racing around the room?
All you're trying to do
Is just be you
But those hateful people won't have none of it
Any honorable ambition, they'll make fun of it
And there's always certain people
Talking behind your back
Spreading slander all around ya
Now you don't know how to act

But here's the thing, they're all telling lies
Like "yo man, I'm the s**t, and you're just a fly
On the wall,
stumbling, crumbling, about to fall."

But I haven't fallen yet.

You see I got heart
Nah you can't bring be down
Can't you see your hateful words
Hit me, then fall to the ground

You see your lies don't stick to me,
My conscience is clear
My focus is crisp
I know of love that will always persist

So what's my secret?
How am I not burned by the fire we walk through?
I gave my life to God. Then, wouldn't you know it? I didn't burn, I just grew
