Her Escape

Her Escape

A Poem by Meriah

Music blared loud,

Drowning out the world,

Not caring about the crowd.

Left alone to live in a world so cold.

Staying strong, pretending life’s okay,

Living through things, never to be told.

Depression makes everyday life rough.

It sinks in and takes over,

Making her think she’ll never be enough.

Everyone thinks she’s fine.

They don’t know about when she’s alone,

She hopes she doesn’t show a sign.

Cuts on her wrists, cuts on her thighs,

Keeping them covered and hidden.

No one hears her emotional cries.

Music is the only way she can escape.

She’s addicted to songs that tell her feelings,

Her heroes never wear a cape.

She lays in bed, thoughts go deep,

Blade slices through her skin, feeling the blood.

There she lies, until she cries herself to sleep.
