Lost

Lost

A Poem by Ella Emergency

Lost.

Like a set of car keys on a rushed morning.

Lost.

Like forgetting why I came into the kitchen, anyway.

Lost.

Like a group of boys who tried Coke and liked it.

Lost.

Like a bunch of highway exits with no signs.

Lost.

Like being in a new city with no guide and no map.

Lost.

Like a brother I’ve never met before.

Lost.

Like lives at the hands of barbarians with nooses.

Lost.

Like Dr. Faustus’s soul when his time was up.

Lost.

Like forgetting where I’m going.

Lost.

Like forgetting where I’m from.

Lost.

Like the garden of Eden.

Lost.

Like Atlantis, El Dorado.

Lost.

Like little girls into the world all alone.

Lost.

Like time I wish I had back.

Lost.

Like a loved one in someone else’s story.

Lost.

Like still playing hide-and-seek when your friends quit.

Lost.
