Self-Evaluation

Self-Evaluation

A Poem by Eva
"

It's sort of a dark and indepth poem that relates to a time when I once died and I wrote about my fears.

"

Have you ever been afraid to fall?

Have you ever been afraid to fall asleep?

Afraid to fall asleep as if you’d never wake up ever again

As if the moment you close your eyes you’d never open them again

Have you ever been afraid to sleep?

The moment your head rests upon the pillow

The moment your body lays across the mattress

The moment your eyes close and

Your mind drifts into the world of illusions

Your state is almost peaceful but yet vulnerable

Have you ever been afraid to sleep?

Have you thought about perhaps this could be the last time you would see the world?

Have you struggled to know whether you are in a dream or are you awake?

Have you ever questioned the people standing before your eyes, are they just figments of your imaginations?

Have you ever been afraid to sleep?

Have you ever felt as if sleeping maybe forever?

Have you ever felt as if you may never wake from your slumber?

Close your eyes

Just for a moment of silence

Have a little faith

Close your eyes

Fall asleep

…Did you feel that?

The very sound of silence is deathly scary in itself

The darkness, the pure core of where the shadows lie

…Did you hear that?

Nothing but silence

Even silence is deafening and overpowering

Close your eyes

Have a little faith

Nothing is there to harm you

Close your eyes

Fall asleep

Have you ever been afraid to sleep?

In the beginning, the question "have you been afraid to fall asleep?" comes across as if the writer is inquiring without any other underlying depth/symbolism/questions. However, by the last line, I feel the real question is, "Have you ever been afraid of dying?"

To answer both question: yes and yes.

Great poem! I look forward to reading and reviewing more of your works in the future.
