My Tree Was Damaged

My Tree Was Damaged

A Poem by Evyn Rubin
"

a poem processing storm damage in my yard

"

This morning my imagination played a trick on me to my benefit

filling in a gap with an image of a cat a neighborhood cat I sometimes

call Cupcake or Pumpkin or Butterscotch and there she was I thought

napping on a log that had recently been part of a living branch of pine

Initially broken during the huge hailstorm but still attached

to the most beautiful tree, then Tucson Electric Power sent

its subcontractor to sever the branch in four chunky pieces

each taken down in a sling and left in my yard for now

Early this morning I thought I saw Pumpkin sleeping upon the inner wood

where the break had been, a perfect fit her shape and colors blending

the broken place gets a precious hug a cat having slept upon it

the dying wood comforted, and the surviving tree comforted

Blessed are you God who created many wonders for our planet earth

including trees   Blessed are you Renewer Healer Sender of comfort

I feel like you smoke more weed than me. Cats are fantastic. The animals, not the musical... the movie they tried to make is pure nightmare fuel.
