Hope and a Lighter

Hope and a Lighter

A Poem by Elizabeth Weis
"

A poem that reflects upon a sudden break up while regretting all the time you wasted on your ex once you meet someone new and better.

"

Hope and a Lighter

It’s funny how a flame

So hot

Could just burn out

Now my lips

Set sail to someone else’s ships

But you are the wind

Making me bend

Wonderment of how you are

With the sick notion that you’re miserable

But you still pretend you have it all

When will you fall?

Once before I’d hoped you’d call for me, spontaneity

But I guess opposites attract

Time I’ll never get back

Even nicotine couldn’t clarify

What my mind struggled to verify

Your feelings for me or lack there of

So I stopped trying

And kept on flying

Till I found someone who took the labor out of love
