Puppy Love

Puppy Love

A Poem by Faith Kinnison

Puppy Love

I want to spend forever, in this moment

You're lying next to me, sleeping like a baby

Your body feels warm, next to mine

The moon reflects off your golden skin

I can't help but wonder what you're dreaming of

As I watch a smile cross your face

I scoot closer, close enough to hear your heart beat

I listen to you breathe, and I softly whisper, "I love you"

I run my fingers through your hair, and try not to wake you

I feel consumed by happiness

I turn over, and lay against the wall

I prepare to dream about you, as I hear you move

I feel your hand slide down my side

I smile as I realize that you know I'm there

I realize that I may never again sleep without you

I begin to feel warm, and I curl up in a ball

I want you to get closer, but it’s okay that you don't

I fall fast asleep, in your arms

Next thing I know, you wake me up

You're getting ready for work

We have spent another night together

I kiss you goodbye, and you're out the door

Everyone says it's just puppy love, and you won’t be around for long

Maybe they're right, but I think they're wrong
