Looking BackA Story by Miranda LeighShort story+PoemTears welled up in her already swollen eyes. She couldn't help but sob, though she tried to fight it. Photographs surrounded her on the floor- of herself, of people she never wanted to see again, and of a life she didn't want to remember. Those photographs, like dusty relics, outlined everything she tried to escape. However, she would never escape, not really. She lied down on the carpeted floor, closing her eyes and just letting herself breathe. "You're stronger than this." She told herself as the ran a hand through her messy hair. She wouldn't let herself lose sight of what really mattered. She'd finally gotten her life on track, and though she'd never truly been happy, she'd started to feel pretty damn close to normalcy. With one last deep breath, she scooped up the pictures and disposed of them. She'd worked hard to accept her troubled past. There was no turning back now. --------------------------------------------------------- Close your eyes Sing yourself to sleep Let yourself escape Within a realm of make believe Let your dreams take you far from here You weren’t meant for this world No, darling, You were meant for so much more Fly away, little angel, Soar and sing and dance Becuase what you're feeling now, Will cease to exist I’d follow if I could My demons drag me down They’re screaming my sins Keeping me on the ground Don’t end up like me Fly until you’re free © 2017 Miranda Leigh |
