Homophobia

A Story by Charisma Moonfairy
"

Its more of a rant than a story that I published on my Facebook page and decided to bring to this site as well

"
The word itself astounds me to no ends. I have never understood why so many people have the urge to hate others and put down on them. This goes right up there with racism and sexism to me and its not just because I am a lesbian that lives in a world where I have been called disgusting, sick, immoral, a sinner, a fascist, the cause of a natural disaster, unnatural, and so much more just because some conservative people and religious fanatics can't accept the fact that I love another woman. Last time I check this was the United States of America, home of the brave and land of the free. If these people are considered "the brave" then I shudder to think what our tomorrows will look like. There is nothing in the Constitution nor the Declaration of Independence that states that I do not have the right to live my life the way I want to and love whom I choose to. In fact last time I read these bills and it was not just in high school that I did, there were a few things called "Freedom of Speech" and "Freedom of Religion" and quite a few other things that I noticed many implying that as a lesbian should not apply to me simply because of whom I chose to love. Get over the fact that I was BORN this way, and I am not going to change because some right wing religious nut has issues with their own sexuality and can't accept me holding hands and kissing a woman in public. The day that this country of ours has the RIGHT to tell me that I can't love my wife is the day I no longer call this country my home...and I hope it doesn't come to that because I really like California. Get with the times, homosexuality is there and always has been but things have evolved enough to where we no longer have to hide in fear of being demoralized and defamed in the shadows but can walk with our heads held high right along side anyone else and say, "I am who I am, I am not ashamed and I will not hide. I am a person, and you will respect me for the person that I am regardless of race, gender, religion, sexuality or anything else you can find wrong with me because EVERYONE has flaws." Thanks for reading my rant, been needing to get that off my chest for awhile.

Ignore the typos and should you be anti-gay all I ask is that you please do not comment this just to tell me that I am a sinner and God is against me and all that, I do not do it to you and all I ask is the same respect.

I will definitely say this: you have my respect. If there's one thing Jesus taught more than any other, it's that hating your neighbors, regardless of whether or not they're different, is simply inexcusable. Jesus never came to earth to hate people; he came to love them and save them. The amount of people who have been turned away from Jesus because of the examples shown by "religious," hateful people is staggering. You speak a great many profound truths here, and it's worth reading again. In my opinion, every preacher in the world should read this.
