Freedom of Speech

A Story by Charisma Moonfairy

Another rant that I posted on my Facebook page that I decided to publish here for further readin

"
First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights. The amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.

Yeah we have all read this a million times, be it in a book or in history class. The actual text for the first amendment reads, " Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

So that little history lesson being stated, I would like to know who gave these right wing extremists the right to tell us that we as a people can't go around saying what we think and feel? Last time I checked this was America, Land of the f*****g Free yet they make it seem that those "liberties" apply only to certain people, and anyone that is different no longer has those freedoms and rights.

I say f**k that, we as a people have the right to fight for our amendment rights, to fight for the freedoms and liberties that our ancestors fought so hard to protect in the past, that our Armed Forces fight to protect each and everyday and we need to start doing it before it is too late. I for one will not be told to be quiet or pretend that I do not have a voice. I have a voice and I intend to use it!

So I intend to fight for my rights, not just because I am Pagan and my religion is often persecuting by those that do not understand, not just because I am a lesbian and my marriage is frowned upon by those too scared to understand. No I will fight for my rights and freedoms because only I know what is best for me and as a member of the United States of America I will not let my voice go unheard.

Thank you for reading my rant, with all that is going on in the world and with politics I just needed to get this off my chest.

I like this because it's not saying "screw America," it's saying as an American I intend to make things right. It's easy to forget that we have the obligation to change where we are, not the right to ignore it. If you toned it down a little and added some more hard argument it could be a really good campaign-type piece!

shout this loudly! I see our rights as Americans slowly eroding. People say, "well I've done nothing wrong. I have nothing to hide...". So the police, four cars worth, searched my house while I was at a local hotel (my wife's xmas present). When confronted, they said someone was calling you for a week & you didn't return their calls...and when they arrived at the house, finding it unlocked, they searched it. The Sargent said well there were paint fumes(we painted some tables that day in the garage) & also our dogs were running loose... Keep shouting!
