Firefly Wishes

Fireflies are are like little stars so why can't I wish on them?

Its Dark

No stars

No moon

Just the dark blue

That paints the sky

And I lie in the grass

Wishing he was by my side

And the only light of the night

Is that of the fireflies

As they flash

Through the sky

 

Reaching out my hand

A firefly lands in my palm

And briefly I wonder if

I made a wish on a firefly

If it would come true once it flew away

And I couldn’t think of why it wouldn’t

Cause fireflies, to me, they were little stars

And people wish upon stars everyday

So why couldn’t I wish on a firefly

 

So I held my breath

And quickly before that firefly

Could disappear into the night

I made a wish

The same one I made on a star every night

I wished upon that firefly

That he could be here right by my side

And I said to that little firefly

 

“Fly off into the night

Stay strong and fly

High into the sky

And meet with the stars

Ask if they’ll grant my wish tonight

Stay strong little firefly”

Very pretty, I think you can wish on fireflies, as well as stars.. wishes are free things..you just attach faith to them and they fly.. very lovely poem.
