Wake Up

Wake Up

A Poem by Alex

Wake up.
You are dead,
Licking marrow from dried bones,
Begging for sustenance yet"
Surprised at your ungainly frame,
Wretched and malnourished.

Wake up.
You could be alive.
A feast waits for no man,
Only vultures to devour each
Morsel. All this rich flesh,
Swollen and dripping with promise,
To eat your fill and then some.

Wake up.
You never died,
Though this long barren Winter
Pulled shades of snow and want
Over your eyes. An unwilling hibernation;
An induced coma.
Packed in ice, your groggy eyes can’t see"
Yet.

Wake up.
You are alive,
In every ragged breath, every quiver of your blue lips.
God waits for no man, for no grand purpose"
His plan is not yours, yours not his.
But here you lie, amidst the maggots and
Stardust. Every inhale a rebellion,
A war cry, a testimony"
“We will not die.”

Wake up.
Winter is melting,
And you should be awake to see it.
