I’m finished trying to build my future

On the backs of shooting stars

The next one

Will not be running through the night sky

But lighting it up

Diligently, every night

Like the goddamn moon.

Not sure what the subject of the poem is, but it appears the speaker has had some frustrating experiences heretofore. Somehow, I have the feeling relationships may have something to do with it.

Ha! Spot on.

“Shooting stars” are tempting but unsurprisingly unreliable. 😂
