true deities

true deities

A Poem by Calliope

dare I peel away the gilded mask?
dare I face the mirror uncovered?

close your eyes, anything to
feign ignorance (feign bliss)
keep trying to
imagine not knowing anything

if thought was merely myth,
and ideas, our benevolent gods
alas, we do not pray
or give tribute
we have made our own way
(or perhaps we have simply forgotten)
