Love Criminals

Love Criminals

A Poem by Zoya

getting your heart expectedly broken
by an expected someone
is not a tragedy

the real tragedy is in knowing
that a thief didn't steal your heart
but a murderer
and now your heart pumps
nothing but broken blood

yet
after all this time
I can't help but hold your name
at the tip of my tongue
and I wonder

Is it okay to empathise with criminals?

l look up
desperately in need of some comfort
and that's when it hits me

you never stop loving a person
you just stop telling them that you do

Well done Zoya...I can certainly empathize with the thought and sympathize with the writer. You are correct in thinking that you never stop loving someone, you just push them to the back of the closet and bring them out every now & then for a laugh or a good cry.
To me, this line speaks to the heart as well as any I have read..."and now your heart pumps
nothing but broken blood"

I am impressed.

Yes, we never stop loving the person - we actually stop telling them that we do!

"You never stop loving a person / You just stop telling them that you do."

Wow. Seriously, you never cease to amaze me with your words, Zoya!

Being in tainted love has to be one of the most foul-tasting experiences in life. You've put so much energy and care and trust into someone, only to realize that that's all they want and nothing more... Only to realize that it is not YOU that they love, but the love you give to them unconditionally.

We realize the issue, we can't help but shake the feeling and think that despite it all they deserve to be loved, we're drained of our energy and time and care and left like a parasite's old host, grey and muddled. But because we once loved them we cannot help but think they were, at least once, worthy of love.

Wonderful work as always!

So glad. Thank you, Avia ^^
Reading this was a stunning experience. It felt like one mind-blowing thing after another, then the last couplet spanked me for a few minutes, but then I looked to your profile box & saw that you are freakin' seventeen & learning!?!?!? That's when I fell off my chair & spilled my coffee. This is pure simplified brilliance. I'm a highly-crafted writer & I would give ANYTHING to write as loosely as this, & have it come out so powerfully. This is an amazing experience. Thanks for RRing me (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Ah thank you so much. Your words mean much :)
Apart from a couple of necessary tweaks for both poetic and musicality purposes (Stanza 3: "and wonder" - no "I" necessary; Stanza 5: "in desperate need....." - because of the breath you expect the readers to take after the previous line, therefore affecting the musicality at that point), this is divine. Right down to the last line. Gave me (good) chills. Well freaking done!!

my pleasure.
The final couplet of this touching poem wound the write up beautifully. How indeed can you tell another you love them when they are the abusers of your heart. Some people just have that capacity to break instead of nurture. I felt the torture in this write. It was painful, I felt a heart dying from an abusive tormentor.

Love Criminals do break hearts...but often we just love them anyway...

Zoya, the last two verses echo in my mind (you never stop loving a person... you just stop telling them that you do). Initially, I said to myself, no! Then, if being honest, I must admit you're right. It's both a raw and tender poem that expresses so much vulnerability, and that's what makes it so special. An exceptional write!
