Misery loves company,

Does it?

I am truly disappointed

At your utter lack

Of originality.

 

I did not expect

You to choose

Such a

Dull

Phrase.

I anticipated

A smidge more

Effort out of you.

 

However,

You aren’t wrong.

Misery does love company.

The moment

You went amiss

Was using those words

As your pathetic version

Of an excuse

To let me fall

Without being there

To catch me.

 

Every single person

On this lonely

Lump of rock

Gets miserable,

And going about

Your life

With the pretty delusion

That you can love

Only in the most perfect times

And never in the worst of them

Is ludicrous.

 

You proved it with

That silly little saying

That you threw at me

To get away.

 

Misery loves company

Because that is when

Company is most needed.

Turning your back

As soon as someone in

Your pitiful little life

Is at their worst

Will get you nowhere.

It will get you no one.

 

The simple reason behind this

Is that

Love is not smooth

Or soft

Or molded to you comfort.

It is hard

And sharp

And it bends for no one.

 

If loving someone

Through their lowest point

Is too heavy for you

To lift high above the clouds

 Into your ivory tower,

Soon enough

You’ll be loving company too.

so i honestly cant think right now the last two or three stanzas are a complete jumble in my head.. feel free to review and fix it in the comments. My brain decided to go to mush on me right before finishing this.. I guess it should happen more often considering I almost always write between 1 and 4 am

All of this, so true. I've always found the phrase disconcerting, and you've put the reasons for it into words which I never could. Don't worry about the last three stanzas - I love them, they're my favourite part of the poem! The last stanza in particular drives your point home perfectly. Love it. I just really love your poetry, late night or otherwise. It really speaks to me.
