A Poem by S.T. Gulik

What can you say to a man who has no culture to bind his mind and keep it snug
and safe from all the razorblade eyes that cut straight through like bullets
through pants of the 80's?
What can you say to a man who's hands are not tied by education but
instead left free to roam up and above the lip of the stove to frolic before
the eyes of dangerous thoughts and feelings?
What can you say to a man whose feet are not yet bound by truth, whose
left to dance away from both the fryer and the fire and plunge through the
darkness bumping into things better left undisturbed?
What can you say to a man who will not adorn the golden fleece of
reality, but lets his eyes flap freely despite the danger of being blinded by
ultra violet ugliness?
What can you say to a man whose mouth is yet unsown and free to writhe and
choke and sputter out the things that we have not been shown?
What can you say to a man who's unopressed by thoughts and feelings
unexpressed and unrestrained by wishful dreams and things that he has yet to
gain.
What can you say when you are lying blind and gagged and bound and crushed by
memories to the ground, and by you walks a man who smiles and waves and then
continues on his way?
How do you feel when you realize that it has been too long and now your only
chance has gone around and all you can do is rasp congratulations and with a
tear you fade away?
