Ikaros

Ikaros

A Poem by Fotis

Arrange your senses accordingly: there
you were by the beach where you saw a thread-
bare dead eyed old man screaming and he said,
"F*****g Christ! Ikaros fell hard for her.
There must have been a 'her' whether weather
was the cause a girl is always involved.
He fled the scene soon after and you said
nothing, just sat there watching the water.

Dune-trodden you with your spyglass in hand
sat and watched the moon kneel to sip darkness
from the sea, like always. Then you pulled on
your coat, stood up, and ran across the sand
and land like a thirsty echo with eyes
terrified of wading a reflection

to tell me what you saw.
