something short of something special

something short of something special

A Poem by freelancejouster

the ship had been sailing for close to a year now
and the lady of the ship had always been a little wary of the captain
because of his past and nothing much else,
but she loved and trusted him anyways.

that is, until the captain brushed up against an iceberg
just to see if he could, it seemed.
and he seemed sorry,
but the lady of the ship felt frightened and betrayed,
that the captain would be so careless with the ship
that she loved and felt more to her like home than her home did.

so she jumped from it for a break,
and found the boat of a friend,
and swam towards it earnestly and excitedly,
wanting nothing more than an escape from the captain and his ship
if even for just a few moments.

but when she was within a few stroke's distance,
the boat sank,
and she found herself wrongly blaming the boat for her plight
almost as much as she blamed the captain and his ship.

So I loved the metaphor right from the start, very creative! You carry out the allegory perfectly and I love the feeling of betrayal and loss you have at the ending. A little more description wouldn't hurt, but I think this is a great write!
